14 temples in Utah open baptistery, 7 temples go into phase 3

The Church announced that 39 temples around the world will enter Phase 2-B, which will allow temples to open their baptisteries to limited ordinances performed by small groups. The Draper, Utah Temple is one of 14 Utah temples that will enter this stage. (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that 39 temples will open their Baptisteries under Phase 2-B, including 14 in Utah, and seven temples will enter Phase 3 in April.

“The four phases of opening reduce the risk, take into account the demand and capacity of the temple and observe the health restrictions in the temple precinct,” said the Church’s announcement on March 29.

Phase 2 enables temples to carry out all living ordinances with strict health guidelines to ensure the safety of workers and participants. As of April 12, 2021, there are 86 temples in phase 2.

Phase 2-B enables living ordinances like phase 2, but also includes a restricted reopening of the baptistery for small groups and people with restricted use.

The temples entering Phase 2-B starting April 12th are:

  • Boise Idaho Temple
  • Generous Utah Temple
  • Brigham City Utah Temple
  • Draper Utah Temple
  • Jordan River Utah Temple
  • Logan Utah Temple
  • London England Temple
  • Meridian Idaho Temple
  • Monticello Utah Temple
  • Ogden Utah Temple
  • Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple
  • Preston England Temple
  • Temple of Reno Nevada
  • Snowflake Arizona Temple
  • Star Valley Wyoming Temple
  • The Gila Valley Arizona Temple
  • Tucson Arizona Temple

The remaining temples that have qualified to enter Phase 2-B begin April 26th:

  • Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple
  • Billings Montana Temple
  • Bismarck Temple in North Dakota
  • Cedar City Utah Temple
  • Cochabamba Bolivia Temple
  • Columbia River Washington Temple

Phase 3 allows temples to enforce all living ordinances, enforce limited ordinances on behalf of the dead, and open patronage quarters, clothing, and cafeteria operations. The seven temples that enter this stage are:

  • Aba Nigeria Temple
  • Accra Ghana Temple
  • Durban South Africa Temple
  • Fukuoka Japan Temple
  • Johannesburg South Africa Temple
  • Temple of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Kinshasa
  • Santo Domingo Dominican Republic temple

There are currently 26 temples in Phase 3, according to the statement. Nine temples around the world that have been operating have ceased operations due to local COVID-19 restrictions, and nine temples are still completely closed.
