2022 Saints Hall of Famers announced

Maryville University’s Department of Athletics and Recreation announced that cross-country / track runner Elizabeth Kiblinger, Shelby Miller Gliebe of women’s basketball, Armon Provo of men’s basketball, the men’s golf team in 2001, and the softball team in 2016 will enter the Saints Hall of Fame to be recorded. This year’s ceremony will take place on Friday, February 25, 2022 in the auditorium of the university.

Graduated from Maryville in 2015, Kiblinger is one of the most honored runners in the history of the Saints Cross Country and Track. She won the prestigious NCAA Elite 90 Award at the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Kiblinger is one of only four student-athletes from Maryville to have been twice Academic All-American by CoSIDA and USATF. She was also a top 30 finalist for NCAA Woman of the Year. She won the GLVC championship in both the Indoor 5K and Outdoor 10K, and qualified for the 5K and 10K at the 2016 Outdoor Track National Championships. Kiblinger finished 15th in the NCAA Cross Country Regionals and received All-Region Awards. She graduated as the school’s record holder in the indoor distances of 800 meters, mile, 3K and 5K and ran in two relay teams that set school records.

Miller Gliebe still remains the program’s all-time scoring leader with 1,612 points after graduating in 2015. She set school records for 3-pointers, free throw percentage, games started and minutes played. Miller was named GLVC Freshman of the Year and received three All-GLVC awards. It will be unforgettable for her to help the team win the 2012 GLVC tournament, Maryville’s first GLVC title, and the first NCAA tournament application for any Division II-era sport. Miller was also named Most Valuable Player of the 2012 GLVC Basketball Tournament, the first freshman to ever receive the honor in league history.

In 2015, Provo finished sixth all-time in the scoring with 1,495 career points. He also set the all-time leader in 3-point field goals with 261, almost 90 ahead of second place. Provo is fifth all-time in steals at 143 and eighth in assists at 260. In influencing the team since he was on campus, he has set the record in game appearances with 113 and played runner-up in minutes with 3,289. In addition, he helped the team from 2012-13 to set the single season record for victories at 23. Provo also played a pivotal role when the Saints won the 4th

The 2001 men’s golf team was the first to receive a post-season application when it qualified for the NCAA tournament that season. The Saints were led at the tournament by Torrey Welsch, who shot 314 to lead the team. Welsch, a Saints Hall of Famer, was a first-team All-SLIAC selection, while Todd DeGrand was the SLIAC Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Conference Award winner. The team achieved a total of 1,264 points over four rounds at The Legends Golf Club in Eureka, MO. In addition to Welsch and DeGrand, Joe Anatra, Ryan Noirfalise and Shawn Hellmann scored points for Maryville. The Saints won the SLIAC tournament that season with a team score of 647. Maryville Hall of Famer Dave Pierce was the squad’s head coach.

The 2016 softball team set the school record for one-season wins at 39 and GLVC wins at 20, and was the first team to receive a major application for the NCAA tournament in the DII era. They defeated # 6 University of Missouri-St. Louis and # 10 Wayne State advance to the regional championship game. They were eliminated 1-0 in additional innings on a sack fly. During the regular season, the No. 1 team defeated Indianapolis and presented Morgan Foley National Pitcher of the Year with their first loss of the year after 30 straight wins. The Saints had a winning streak with the best 11 games of the season en route to their NCAA tournament appearance. Wendy Macias, Courtney Ferguson and Nikki Taylor were All-GLVC selections for the roster.

The induction ceremony is open to the Maryville community and the general public during the track and field alumni weekend celebrating the university’s 150th anniversary. Attendance at the Hall of Fame ceremony is free. More information is available at maryville.edu/150.
