The truck drove about 50 meters above the barrier before coming to a stop on the edge of the structure. The truck’s cab hung about 15 meters above traffic, according to UHP officials.

UHP said in a press release that speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. None of the occupants of the semitrailer were injured and the trailer was empty, the statement said.

The crash was the second of its kind on Thursday. Earlier in the day, a truck driver escaped injury after losing control of the truck and jumping over a barrier on the driveway from I-15 south to I-215 west was announced by the Utah Highway Patrol.

UDOT reported the crash for the first time shortly before 6:30 a.m. The driver lost control while cornering the ramp, UHP Sgt. Said Cameron Roden. He doesn’t know why the driver lost control.

Recordings from a nearby UDOT traffic camera showed the trailer of the articulated lorry resting on the barrier. The crash closed the ramp for several hours, but reopened it before 10 a.m.
