The sunny weather lately is good news for anglers who love to go fishing. However, if it doesn’t rain again soon, our lack of water can harm us later.

Right now the best fishing is near Sonoma on San Francisco Bay, where you can find halibut, striped bass, and even a sturgeon if you know where to go.

The guy who tells you where Keith Fraser is, the guru of bay fishing. You can find him in his Loch Lomond bait shop in San Rafael. Keith has the only live bait in the area and can give you directions to the best spots.

His fishing story of the week was about a man who bought some of his living scent and fished it off the rock face near Alameda. He caught some nice halibut guards at 10 pounds plus a 50 pound white sea bass.

Keith says the floods will be good this weekend. Call him at 415-456-0321 for the latest reports.

Captain Hogan Brown, who runs fly fishermen on several northern California rivers including the Yuba, Feather and Sacramento, says the Yuba has produced good trout fishing action east of Marysville. He expects the steelhead action on the spring to be pretty good for the first few weeks of March as well. Call Hogan at 530-514-2453 to book a trip with him.

Fly fishermen will find great trout action on the Sacramento River between Redding and Anderson. And steelhead action has been pretty good lately on the Trinity River.
