Allen Carter Obituary (1926-2021) – Salt Lake City, UT

Allen Lynn Carter

1926-2021

“I go home.” When his carers helped Dad, he looked at her and said, “Why all the fuss? I’m going home.” And he did. Dad decided he was ready, it was time, and just and peacefully turned off his earthly light and walked through the door. Now mom has waited a long time, over eight years. There is no doubt that she was on the other side of the door, shaking her finger, “Where have you been? You are late. Yet again. Everyone here has waited a long time. Your mother, your father, your brothers and sisters. Friends. All. Even the dogs and horses. Now get in! “And then she laughed and everyone laughed. And then they hugged. After years, and in many cases decades, everyone gathered for a long-awaited reunion.

Allen Lynn Carter was born on November 27, 1926 to Archie Eugene and Annie Sims Jones Carter. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, he actually grew up on the family’s 1,000 acre Mountain Meadows Ranch in Kimball’s Junction, near Park City. He graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah. At the end of World War II, he served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan as part of the occupation forces. Upon his return, he met a young and beautiful employee, Beverlee Andersen, on a visit to the Utah State Capitol, whom he married on June 12, 1951 and later worshiped in the Salt Lake Temple. Everyone was a lot for many people: businessman, nature lover, hunter, camper, boat driver and skier. For decades he ran the family business his father founded: AE Carter Distributing, Eureka Appliance Company, Carter Brothers LLC, Durfee Creek Estates and others. Not a year goes by without a visit to Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge, Bear Lake, Rockport Lake, the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains, Alta, Brighton or Park City. He made the family home at the foot of the beautiful Mount Olympus. But more than ever, Allen was a family man who devoted himself to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A lifetime member of LDS Church and Ward at Holladay 7, Mt. Olympus 2nd, and Olympus Cove. While we will miss him here and all of his many stories, we are delighted that he has stories to tell to a new and eager audience.

Allen leaves his sons Richard A. “Rick” of Arlington, VA and Bradley A. (Rosalie) of Draper, UT; Daughter Tracie Lynn Cushman of West Point, UT; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; his sister Joyce (Blaine) Wilson of Santa Clara, UT; brother-in-law Keith Smith of Ivins, UT; and sister-in-law Jerre Andersen of Huntington Beach, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by Beverlee, his 62-year-old wife, his parents, brothers Eugene Carter and Donald Carter, and sisters Melba Linnell and Mary Ann Smith in death. The family would like to thank Home Care Assistance SLC and Canyon Home Care and Hospice for their dedicated hours.
