Allen W. Ogden Elliott | Obituaries

Allen William Ogden Elliott passed peacefully from his earthly life into the presence of his beloved Savior and God on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown.

Born on April 2, 1932, in Gore, Virginia, he was the eldest son of Rev. Clark Elliott and Olive Mae Smith Elliott. He was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, the late June Elizabeth Crouse Elliott, whom he married on January 19, 1952.

All grew up in the Pentecostal Church and served God faithfully throughout his life. He and his wife played gospel music with the evangelistic group “The Middleway Gospel Singers”. Allen and his entourage traveled the Tri-State for more than 18 years bringing the good news of the gospel to many. His testimony of God’s love for all people has been unwavering, and his legacy is his gentle but effective personal service. He was a charter member of Child’s Road Church of God, where he served on the board and continued to use his gifts to serve the Lord in the church. He was also active in the Living Waters Fellowship. For the past several years he has been faithfully attending the Slanesville Presbyterian Church in Hampshire County, where he was known affectionately as Alley Cat and Dapper Dad.

Allen was a gifted musician and singer who never missed an opportunity to serve others. He had a sweet mind and quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that made him popular with many. These gifts enabled him to connect with people, graciously share his faith and build lasting friendships. He never knew a stranger.

Allen worked in the home improvement industry throughout his adult life. He spent many years with Gregory’s Inc. in Stephens City and worked as an independent contractor for Dan Ryan Homes before retiring in 2007.

Allen is survived by his sons Allen “Tugie” Elliott from Martinsburg and Tony Elliott and his wife Mickey Joe from Bunker Hill; five grandchildren, Charity Nicole Seaborne and husband Chris, Jordan Annette Hasenbühler and husband Fred, Daniel Mason Elliott, Austin O’Baker Elliott and wife Kristen and Adrian Hutzler Elliott; Five great-grandchildren, Christopher Levi Seaborne, Marlee Jolynn Elliott, Emilee June Elliott, DJ Hasenbuhler and Elijah James Hasenbuhler. He is also survived by dear friend and exceptional carer Opal Aldine “Butch” Chaney.

Before him, a granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Elliott and his brother Arthur Clark Elliott died.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Canterbury Center who cared for everyone during his three-year stay there. Her unwavering dedication to the residents and patients at the center was remarkable, especially during the current pandemic. A heartfelt thanks also goes to the Panhandle Hospice for their compassionate care while at their service.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 28 at 11 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home South Berkeley Chapel. Edward Myers will officiate. The funeral will take place in Pleasant View Memory Gardens. The family will be welcomed to the funeral home, Friends and Family, on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
