Now back in 3A classification after being part of 4A Region 9 for the past four years, the Canyon View Falcons won their first preseason game on August 13, defeating the Ogden Tigers in Ogden, 33-21.

The following week, the Falcons were knocked out 23-0 on the streets by the Payson Lions. Next came the Falcons’ home opener against city rivals Cedar High on August 27th. Although Canyon View led the game 20-3 at the end of the third quarter, the Reds made a late comeback to take a 27:20 win in extra time and claim the coveted “Pick” travel trophy.

The Falcons (1-2), who didn’t play last week, will open their 3A South Region schedule on Friday with a home game against the San Juan Broncos (3-1 in the preseason).

Two-time defending champions Beaver Beavers have won their first four games, starting with a 28-0 win over Kanab on August 13. The following week, the Beavers beat the Cowboys in Grantsville at 8:14 pm.

Then on August 27th, Beaver traveled all the way to Marsh Valley, Idaho, where they defeated the Eagles 21-20. Marsh Valley had a chance to take the lead after scoring a 53-yard TD pass 34 seconds before the end of the game, but the subsequent two-point conversion attempt failed and Beaver escaped with his 29th straight win.

The following Friday, the Beavers defeated the Summit Academy Bears in Draper, 33-31, with Cobe Carter scoring four of Beavers five TDs (three rushing and one pass reception).

This Friday, the Beavers will host the Providence Hall Patriots (2-2), a member of Division 2A North. The Beavers will start playing in the 2A South region next week when they host the Delta Rabbits (1-3).

The Utah High School Activities Association’s final two-year statewide realignment, which went into effect this fall, saw the reintroduction of 1A football, with several 2A schools dropping to 1A for football only. Among them are Enterprise, Kanab and Parowan, all of whom compete against Beaver and others in Region 19 of 2A in all sports except soccer.

In 1A football, however, Enterprise, Kanab and Parowan are all part of the six-team 1A South Division, which also includes Milford, Gunnison Valley and North Sevier.

A month into the start of the season, Kanab, Milford and Parowan are all at .500 with identical 2-2 records. Company is 2-1, with the Wolves only losing on Friday in a 7-0 home loss to North Summit.

After losing the first two games, Parowan has seen strong offense in the last two games, both at home. The Rams knocked out Grand County 60-0 on August 27 and beat Monticello 54-14 the following week, with quarterback Treven Yardley posting big numbers in both competitions.

Teams from southern Utah are all out and about at this Friday’s games, which include top soccer schools, with Kanab playing at North Summit, Milford playing at Delta, Parowan playing at Rich, and Enterprise playing at Duchesne.

1A South Region Play begins September 17th and lasts five weeks through October 14th.
