BLM initiates planning changes in eastern Utah to implement the Dingell Act

Public scoping begins with changes to the resource management plan for the Moab, Price, and Vernal field offices

BLM press release

The Bureau of Land Management invites the public to participate in changes to three resource management plans to create new wilderness, national monuments, national reserves, recreational areas, and wild and landscape rivers in accordance with Public Law 116-9, the John D. Dingell , Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act (Dingell Act). The Green River District has posted a letter of intent on the federal registry to initiate a public review of up to six changes and related environmental reviews affecting Moab, Price and Vernal’s resource management plans and 10 critical environmental areas.

Any change to the resource management plan and the associated environmental review will focus on specific issues and include a number of alternatives. Comments provided during scoping help the BLM identify planning issues that should be considered in the land management plan. The BLM analyzes these questions and uses them to develop a number of alternative management strategies.

“This is a great opportunity for the public to help the BLM identify which issues should be analyzed during the planning process and to play an active role in the future management of the remarkable areas identified by Congress in the Dingell Act “Said Lance Porter, Green River District Manager.

The BLM will hold public meetings to learn more about the planning process to change resource management plans to match the new land names set out in the Dingell Act. The sessions will take place on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. MST and on November 18, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. MST, online via Zoom.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit comments by November 27, 2021 by post, email or via the BLM’s ePlanning website.
