Body found in Flaming Gorge Reservoir

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo (AP) – The body of a man who has been missing in the Flaming Gorge Reservoir for 15 years may have been found.

The 43-year-old Richard Herren apparently fell into the reservoir on May 4, 1997 while fishing with his wife and another man. The Associated Press reported that volunteers returned to the scene on Saturday and, using cutting-edge technology and assistance, found a body of his wife.

Mary Herren identified the approximate place where her husband disappeared from her boat; Nobody saw it fall out then. Side-scan sonar and corpse dogs then helped searchers locate the corpse 130 feet below the surface of the water.

They were able to tour the site with a remote-controlled underwater vehicle, but additional planning must be done before the body can be recovered.
