Body found March 26 identified as missing Kearns wife; new indictments filed Friday

SALT LAKE CITY – A body found last week was identified as that of missing Kearns wife Conzuelo “Nicole” Solorio-Romero. The Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office filed new charges Friday morning against four people related to their deaths.

Fernando Marquez, 22, from Kearns and Carolina Marquez, 39, from Salt Lake City are both charged with murder, a first degree crime. They are also charged with kidnapping and obstructing the judiciary.

Ivan Acosta, 27, and Cristian Morales, 26, are both accused of obstructing justice and of abusing or desecrating a human body.

The united police opened an investigation on February 6 after receiving reports that Solorio-Romero had sent a video message to a friend saying two men with guns forced them to leave their home near 5100 Leave W 5400 S.

The kidnapping took place in broad daylight and was captured on surveillance video.

Police said they later discovered that Solorio-Romero had been forced into a green Toyota Camry driven by 21-year-old Jorge Medina-Reyes.

Witnesses said the Solorio-Romero police were in an apartment near 1100 W Elba Ave on the knife appointment. in West Valley City.

In the apartment, 29-year-old Orlando asked Tobar Solorio-Romero about her alleged conversation with police that led to the arrest of one of Tobar’s employees who was being held in federal custody. Solorio-Romero denied having spoken to the police.

According to police, state records show that Tobar’s staff was a relative of Carolina Marquez and was, in fact, in federal detention.

Solorio-Romero also reportedly told a witness at the apartment that her husband was murdered by Tobar and Medina-Reyes and was believed not to have committed suicide.

Police say Tobar then told Solorio-Romero “that she knew too much and that she wouldn’t leave the apartment.” Tobar then shot her in the back of the head, the police say.

All of the witnesses immediately left the home, went outside, and left [Tobar], [Medina-Reyes] and [Carolina Marquez] in the apartment with [Solorio-Romero].

When they were outside, the witnesses heard another shot and then saw Chaparro walk outside with a gun and blood on his hands.

Witnesses told police that Tobar and Medina-Reyes shot Solorio-Romero and that Tobar, Medina-Reyes and Cristian Morales were the ones who disposed of Solorio-Romero’s body.

“[Solorio-Romero]The body was next seen by witnesses wrapped in black plastic garbage bags and loaded onto the back of a landscape trailer attached to a white pickup truck, ”the probable cause statements read.

Acosta told police he was in the West Valley City apartment when Solorio-Romero was taken and that he was outside the apartment when Solorio-Romero was shot.

According to the likely cause statements, Acosta told police that everyone in the apartment went to Carolina Marquez’s restaurant, Tacos Mi Carmela, immediately after the shooting.

Police said video surveillance footage from the restaurant showed Carolina Marquez, Fernando Marquez, Tobar and Medina-Reyes meeting in Carolina Marquez’s office “for a period immediately after the shooting and before they return to the house to clean up the scene” .

The footage also shows someone in the restaurant handing black garbage bags to Tobar.

West Valley City Police’s body camera shows officers doing a social check on Solorio-Romero’s home hours after the shooting. Police said the footage showed Carolina Marquez, Fernando Marquez and Acosta in the apartment removing items from the apartment and locking the door.

“They appeared to be cleaning the apartment, which coincided with the fact that the items in the basket they were carrying were paper towels and detergents,” said the probable cause statements.

According to the likely cause, on March 26, detectives found Solorio-Romero’s body in black garbage bags and an autopsy confirmed her identity.

Preliminary autopsy results suggest that Solorio-Romero died of two gunshot wounds to the head and the mode of her death was murder.

A search of Tobar’s house revealed a .40 caliber Bersa pistol, the same caliber as the weapon used in Solorio-Romero’s murder. Police said the gun was soaked in a chemical that began to corrode the gun.

“Witnesses identified the pistol as the same weapon that Nicole was shot with. It was later discovered that the pistol had been stolen from Vernal, Utah, a year earlier, ”the statements read.
