Brent Snow | Obituary | The Stillwater Newspaper

After succumbing to Parkinson’s disease and complications from a stroke in 2019, Brent Marriott Snow passed away on Monday morning, August 30th, at his home in Douglasville, Georgia.

Brent was born on July 25, 1947 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at LDS Hospital to Rhea Marriott Snow and William Max Snow. He spent most of his early life in Firth, Idaho and St. Anthony, Idaho with his two brothers Bruce and Brad. Her father was a headmaster and her mother a housewife. In 1965 he graduated from South Fremont High School. He attended Utah State University, Boise Junior College (now Boise State University), and Brigham Young University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. He also holds an MS in Psychology from Oklahoma State University and a Ph.D. in counseling from the University of Idaho. He was a professional advisor and professor at the University of Idaho (5 years), Oklahoma State University (13 years), and the University of West Georgia (18 years) where he was chair of the nationally recognized Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. He became the first provost and vice president of academic affairs for Texas A&M San Antonio (age 9) before retiring in February 2019. He served in the Marine Corps and Army Reserve.

He met Catherine Louise Schmitt at BYU and they were married on September 24, 1971 in the LDS temple in Mesa, Arizona. Because she was so beautiful and smart, they had six of the most wonderful children ever born: Cami, Summer, Brooks, Blake, Lexia and Sara. He has had the honor of being a member of Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ and has served as Bishop of the Oklahoma State University Ward and President of the Carrollton, Georgia (now Ward) Branch, as well as in many other leadership and teaching positions within the Church.

Brent was known and loved as a humble leader, incredible teacher, and notable public speaker. When he wasn’t dominating the basketball court, soccer field, or racquetball court, he read books and newspapers and was getting smarter by the minute. He was the universe’s self-proclaimed sand surfer and backwards runner champion, and he was happiest eating a burger, fries, and a malt and strawberry shake. Although he spoke softly, he had a superior sense of humor and was able to make everyone around him laugh and be comfortable. He loved God and those around him with all his heart.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and is survived by his wife, Cathy Snow, of Carrollton, Georgia; Bruce Max Snow brothers (wife Cindy) of Provo, Utah; Brad Snow (wife Christine) of Sandy, Utah; Kinder Cami Ledesma from Boise, Idaho; Summer Wood (husband Clay) of Carrollton, Georgia; Brooks Brent Snow (wife Jacki) of Douglasville, Georgia; Blake Marriott Snow (wife Lindsey) of Provo, Utah; Lexia Miele (husband Adam) from Douglasville, Georgia; and Sara Snow (husband Daryl Pinkal) of Pleasant Grove, Utah; and 20 grandchildren.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 4th at 2:00 p.m. EST, followed by a reception. We meet at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3027 Chapel Hill Road, Douglasville, Georgia. All are welcome.
For those who cannot make it in person, the service is transferred virtually to Zoom (meeting ID: 980 9505 1302, passcode: 639755). Flowers should be sent to 5405 Punkintown Road, Douglasville, GA, 30135.
