Brent Whittier Graham Obituary (1942-2021) – Ogden, UT

Brent Whittier Graham (79) from West Haven Utah passed away peacefully at his home on October 13, 2021. Brent was born on January 29, 1942 to Dolores Fuller and Heber Whittier Graham in Ogden Utah. He grew up in Weber County and attended schools there. In 1960 he graduated from Weber High School. In high school, he was very active in sports, particularly soccer, basketball, and swimming. He often said that he didn’t like school, but because he loved sports, he had to get good grades in order to attend. It was important enough to him that he was eligible to play.
After high school, he attended Weber State until he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was called to the France Paris Mission. He fell in love with the language and the people and enjoyed his time there. He made himself popular with the people he met and worked with because he worked extra hard to learn the language and culture. Upon returning from his mission, he enrolled at Utah State University. He studied English literature and French. During his time in the state of Utah, he met Bonnie Nash and married her. They had three children and were later divorced.
Brent taught in the Weber School District for several years. He taught English and French and also worked as a football assistant. He loved working with the young people, but found working with their parents not that pleasant. He insisted that the youth do their jobs and participate, and he had ways of bringing English literature and the French language and culture to life. Over the years, he has met a number of former students who have told him how much they enjoyed his classes. Brent didn’t like not being his own boss, so he left the school district and opened a daycare center in Layton, which he ran for several years.
After the daycare center closed, he worked in various professions. He loved working with ranchers and spending his summers in the mountains with the cattle. He was a cowboy at heart. He granted writing at Hill Air Force Base for a while, and when that was over he went back to insurance and specialized in pre-planning. In 2014 he withdrew from it.
He loved the different horses he had over the years, but his favorite horse was his mule Woodrow. The two had a special bond. They had some amazing adventures together. He missed Woodrow painfully when he died. Brent had to give up horses for health reasons in 2017 and was very sad and resilient to end this chapter of his life.
In 2005, Brent met Janet Ray Workman and married her. They were sealed in the Ogden Temple on December 2, 2006. They have spent the past 16 years enjoying the great outdoors together. Camping and driving ATVs gave them some very much appreciated experiences. One of Brent’s favorite spots was the Uintas and even after he couldn’t camp anymore, he loved to drive through the Uinta and enjoy the majesty of God’s creation.
Brent preceded his parents’ death; one brother, Timothy Graham; and a daughter, Gayle, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Janet; a daughter, Claire Doss; and son Travis (Alissa) Graham; and seven grandchildren. He also leaves five stepchildren: Luella Daugherty, Amelia (Anthony) Booth, Joseph Workman, Sarah (Kaluna) Mitte, Adam Workman and twelve stepchildren.
Brent’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kanesville Stake Center, 4555 W 4000 South in West Haven, Utah. The tour takes place before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and on Friday, October 22, 2021, in the Myers Mortuary of Roy, 5865 S 1900 W from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. His final resting place will be the Aultorest Memorial Park in Ogden, Utah.
