ORANGEVILLE, Utah — The Emery County Sheriff’s office arrested a California man after he fled from the state while facing weapon and drug-related charges on Saturday.
According to arresting documents, 60-year-old John Douglas Goodrich recently moved from California to Orangeville with a $250,000 warrant for his arrest.
An Emery County officer learned where Goodrich was residing and attempted to contact him at his home.
When the officer arrived, he found Goodrich in the house on the couch. The officer walked to the front door and tried to talk to him, but Goodrich walked to the back of the house and refused to speak to the officer.
The officer left the house, got a search warrant for the home, and returned with other deputies and a K-9.
No one answered the front door after police knocked on the door and announced they had a search warrant. After waiting for about 30 seconds, they broke down the door and entered the home.
Deputies commanded anyone in the home to come out or risk injury by the K-9, but no one responded, according to the arresting documents.
Police began their search of the home and found a locked bathroom in the master bedroom. Deputies gave another command for anyone to come out, and Goodrich surrendered himself to police without further incident.
While police searched for Goodrich, they found several weapons and ammunition in plain view and smelled marijuana. They got another search warrant for his home and shop to look for any more illegal substances.
Police said they found;
- multiple AR style rifles,
- hand guns,
- a flamethrower,
- swords,
- a hunting rifle
- parts to build an AR-style weapon,
- bulletproof armor, and
- medal badges matching insignias from three federal and local police agencies.
A loaded handgun and AR-styled rifle were found in the bathroom where Goodrich was hiding. None of the found firearms had serial numbers on them.
There was also several drug paraphernalia, including 4 pounds of marijuana, 1.5 pounds of meth, items with THC Dab and a THC Dab maker, and $29,000.

According to police, Goodrich has an extensive criminal history in California dating from 2006 to 2021, which includes felony charges of manufacturing weapons, selling firearm magazines, and carrying firearms in public spaces.
He was booked in the Emery County Jail for 17 felony and 6 misdemeanor charges, including;
- possession of a firearm by a restricted person (14 counts),
- possession of a controlled substance schedule I/II/analogue,
- knowingly producing a controlled substance (3 counts),
- possession of marijuana or spice (2 counts),
- unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon (5 counts),
- and illegal discharge of a firearm.
