CEDAR CITY — The Canyon View High School girls soccer team finished its regular season undefeated, shutting out the Emery Spartans on Thursday afternoon.

With the decisive 5-0 victory at home, the Falcons improved to 8-0 in Region 12 play, 13-3 overall.

Hadlee Farrow had a three-goal hat trick for the Falcons, while teammate Bethanee Vargas added the other two goals. Andee Nelson recorded an assist and goalkeeper Gracie Burt posted the shutout.

“In the first half, we struggled a little bit, but we finished the second half a lot better,” said Canyon View head coach Steven Newman.

Once the Falcons had built a comfortable lead, he said, he experimented with mixing up the lineup “in preparation going forward, training people in different positions.”

The win over Emery marked the second straight shutout victory for Canyon View this week, as the Falcons also won on the road against Richfield on Tuesday, also by a score of 5-0.

Farrow and Vargas, both of whom are sophomores, have been a formidable dual scoring threat for the Falcons this season. The pair have combined to score 29 goals in 16 games, with Farrow making 15 and Vargas adding 14. In addition, 10 of Canyon View’s 13 wins have been by shutout, with goalkeeper Burt being credited with all 10.

Canyon View finished its regular season in dominant fashion, posting shutouts in seven of its last eight games and winning those eight contests by a combined score of 45-1.

As the currently no. 2-ranked team in 3A, the Falcons will have a bye in the first round and then play at home for the next two rounds of the playoffs, barring a first-game upset.

Canyon View’s next contest will be a second-round playoff game at home on Oct. 12 at 4 pm, against an opponent yet to be determined. To see the full 3A bracket and schedule, click here (names of teams will be added later after final RPI rankings are revealed).

Canyon View, which also won the Region 12 title last year, will be looking to make yet another strong showing in the state playoffs. Last year, the Falcons defeated Judge Memorial 1-0 in the 3A quarterfinals before losing 3-0 at Ogden in the semifinals.
