VERNAL — A child is dead and a woman is in critical condition after being shot near Fantasy Canyon Monday, police said.
Sheriff’s deputies from Uintah County were dispatched on Monday around 2:30 pm to the area of Fantasy Canyons after a shooting was reported, officials said. Initial reports indicated it involved a 3-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman.
The deputies located the woman and her deceased son just west of state Route 45 on Glen Bench Road. The woman received medical attention on scene before being taken to a hospital with critical injuries.
Investigators are processing multiple scenes and are working to determine the circumstances around the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office, though they do not believe there are any suspects nor a threat to the public.
