EPHRAIM – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the location of a new temple in Ephraim on Friday. The three-story, 39,000-square-foot building will be erected on 9.16 acres at the intersection of 200 North and 400 East within the city of Sanpete County.

Drafts for the temple are still being developed and details on the interior and exterior design will be released at a later date. The groundbreaking dates have not yet been set, but project leaders will soon begin working with Ephraim city officials on preliminary plans and submitting public documents in the coming months, according to a Church statement.

The new temple will serve as places of worship for more than 31,000 Latter-day Saints in the Ephraim area. Members who have met certain requirements can visit the temple to worship, learn about Jesus Christ and His teachings, and participate in sacred ceremonies such as marriage ordinances and vicarious ordinances on behalf of deceased ancestors.

In addition to this new temple, the Church currently has 14 temples operating, seven under construction, three under renovation, and three announced in Utah. They are located in Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Heber Valley, Jordan River, Layton, Lindon, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo , Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, Smithfield, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville, and Vernal.
