It’s no surprise that three-time state champions Corner Canyon ranked # 1 on the Grade 6A rating percentage index used by the Utah High School Activities Association to determine the playoff seeding, released on Saturday.

In 5A, Springville won the number 1, and that’s a big deal.

The Red Devils were ranked 11th last season and dropped to No. 6 Maple Mountain 27-21 back to finish with a 5-6 record.

A lot has changed in class 5A since last season. Timpview and Orem have met in the last two 5A title games, with the Tigers both winning. The Thunderbirds are # 2 seeds after setting a 7-2 mark against a very difficult schedule. Orem has meanwhile fought his way up to a 4-5 mark against an equally tough record and will go into the national tournament as No. 21 seed.

Springville ended the regular season with an 8-1 record, his only loss to the No. 6 seeded Spanish Fork 36-28 on September 10th. A great offensive from the Red Devil led by Senior Porter Small (6-foot-4, 250th). Pound) and sophomore Dallin Johnson (6-3, 275) paved the way for senior Seth Rigtrup to hit 1,130 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Stansbury (8-2), who was 7-0 in Region 7, is the No. 3 seed. The Champion of Region 5 Bountiful (7-2) is No. 4 and Provo (7-2) is No. 5.

Timpanogos was 1-10 two years ago and competed as an independent player last season but made a major turnaround under coach Austin Heaps in his sophomore year in 2021. The Timberwolves finished 8-2 and go into the playoffs as No. 8.

The RPI takes into account the entire regular season, not just one game. Though Lone Peak presented its only loss to Corner Canyon, the Chargers (9-1) are still No. 1 in Class 6A to enter the state playoffs.

On October 7, the Knights throttled Chargers 41-16 to end that team’s 48-game winning streak. Lone Peak (6-2) is seed # 2 in Figure 6A.

Skyridge – who defeated Lone Peak head-to-head 14-9 on October 1 – is number 3 at 9-1. American Fork checks in at # 8 (6-3) and Pleasant Grove (1-9) is # 21.

Region 1 Champion Weber (8-2) is No. 4 and Mountain Ridge (8-2) deserves No. 5 seeds.

Desert Hills (9-1) in the top seeded class 4A, Juab (9-1) in No. 1 in class 3A, San Juan (9-1) received the top seed in class 2A and Duchesne (8-1) earned the No. 1 seed in class 1A.

The first round of the playoffs begins on Friday on the home courts. The playing times will be announced on Monday.
