Coyote sightings have been reported on the University of Utah campus

SALT LAKE CITY – On Saturday night, University of Utah police responded to a coyote sighting on campus and confirmed eyewitness reports from two coyotes in the area.

Witnesses reportedly saw the coyotes chase a deer and leave Officers Circle for Red Butte Canyon shortly after 8 p.m.

After the coyote sighting, university officials asked people on campus or when visiting Red Butte Canyon to be careful and be aware of their surroundings, especially if they were bringing their pets with them.

  • Be mindful of your surroundings and avoid distractions. Avoid isolated or dark areas. Hike in groups whenever you can – there is security in numbers.
  • Pay attention to the path and where you are stepping.
