The Department of Juvenile Justice (JJS) invites you to celebrate Davis Technical College, which opens a new program for jailed youth on March 18.

This joint open house is designed to celebrate the college opportunities for incarcerated youth housed at the Mill Creek Youth Center in Ogden, Utah. Cost savings through

Youth justice reform has enabled Davis Technical College, the Ogden School District, and JJS to come together to improve the youth we serve.

We will hear comments from the following people about how the vocational program will equip aspiring adults with the skills to get high-paying jobs and become productive citizens.

  • Nate Winters, assistant director, JJS

  • Darin Brush, President and CEO of Davis Technical College (DTC)

  • Chris Hughes, former prison inmate and DTC student

  • Rocky Woodland, former DTC student

  • Darce Afuvai, director of the Mill Creek Youth Center

Here is the agenda:

From 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., the speakers will give an opening speech virtually via this zoom link. A virtual tour follows the comments. Please do not plan to attend in person during this time as this will be done virtually and not in person.

After the live stream from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. there will be an open day for visitors. There will be young people operating the equipment and available for interviews. * Please use the Calendly app for March 18th (link here) for personal visits. This way we can get an idea of ​​when you would like to participate, how many people are in your group and how we can control the crowd flow.

Please follow the COVID-19 protocol when visiting. If you are not feeling well or cannot pass the screener, we ask that you do not participate. Masks and hand sanitizer are available.
