Dennis Dale Slater – St George News

Sept. 13, 1957-Nov. 6, 2022

Dennis Dale Slater passed away peacefully at the home of his sister, Lori Atkinson in Hurricane, Utah, on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022.

Dale was born on Sept. 13, 1957, in Ogden, Utah, to Dennis Lawrence Slater of Slaterville/Marriott and Carolynn Craner of Riverdale.

He grew up in Woods Cross/Centerville, Utah, and graduated from Viewmont High School in 1976 where he played football and hockey. After graduation, Dale moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where he met the brown-eyed girl that instantly became the love of his life, Jayne Spencer. They were married the following year on April 1, 1977, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. During the next five years, Dale and Jayne had three children: Michelle, Nick, and Amy.

They stayed in Twin Falls where Dale worked for Golden West Tire but eventually moved their family to Farmington, Utah, and Dale started back to work at Baileys Moving and Storage. He worked extremely hard to accomplish his goals there and then in spring 1996, he moved his family to St. George, Utah where he opened Slater Transfer and Storage. Over the next few years, he opened offices in Northern Utah and Las Vegas, Nevada, and opened Slatz RV & Truck Wash / Body & Paint Shop.

The long days showed his dedication. During his success, Dale also enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and close friends. Dale was known in the Slater family as the best long-range shooter. He consistently would shoot typically 500+ yards and hit his target on the family property.

Dale did all this as well as traveled with Jayne all around the world. They loved vacationing in Alaska. A few years after Jayne passed away, Dale took his three kids and their families to Alaska to give them the opportunity to experience their favorite vacationing spot. All 20 of them enjoyed every minute of it immensely.

Dale had a successful, fulfilling life. In 2010 he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and was given approximately 3-5 years, which he surpassed. He made the best out of the next 10 years.

Dale is survived by his father Dennis Lawrence (Sally) Slater; sister Lori (Byron) Atkinson; brother Gordon (Charmaine) Slater; daughter Michelle Slater; son Nick (Kena) Slater; daughter Amy (Steven) Bolton; grandchildren: Kylee (Haydon) Dillon, Telicia (Skylar) Mickelson, Anyssalynn Zermeno, Jace Zermeno, Rylee Slater, Morgan Slater, Spencer Slater, Lia Slater, Whitlee Bolton, Syndal (Devon) Slater, Renic Bolton, Tanic Bolton and Zailey Bolton; and four great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Funeral services will be held in St. George, Utah, on Friday, Nov. 11, at 11 am in the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel located at 288 West St. George Blvd. A visitation will be held Friday, prior to services, 9:30-10:30 am at the mortuary.
