District Attorney says stolen phone led to homicide outside South Salt Lake strip club

A Salt Lake City man was charged with multiple crimes, according to court records, following a murder outside a strip club in South Salt Lake.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill reported that the incident began in Southern X-Posure in the 3400 South State Street area in late December 17.

A man identified as CA in the prosecutor’s indictment allegedly had his phone stolen from his vehicle that night. He was able to track down someone in the club who supposedly had the phone. However, when he confronted the man, the person who appeared to have picked up the phone pointed a gun at the victim.

Witnesses told the detectives they heard CA tell the man to return the phone before they heard “three pops,” the indictment said.

Police were called to the scene after midnight on December 18, where they found CA shot in the chest. He was transported to the hospital and later died of his injuries.

The man who allegedly aimed the gun matched the description given by Romalice Latrell Williams, 36, of Salt Lake City, who was seen leaving Southern X-Posure in a gold-colored BMW.

Police later found the vehicle at a Ramada Inn on North Temple in Salt Lake City. They discovered that Williams was reportedly leaving one of the rooms and when police officers confronted him, he gave them a false identity.

Authorities issued a search warrant for the room which produced a weapon and ammunition matching the shell casings found at the scene.

“A search of Williams’ room at the Ramada revealed a .380 hangun and ammunition that resembled the empty casings and live ammunition found at the crime scene at Southern Exposure [sic]”The indictment reads.” Williams’ room also tested positive for a distributable amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, white shoes, and clothing equivalent to that of Williams at Southern Exposure. Other drugs found on these items are currently being tested. “

Williams was also charged with a crime of providing false information to an officer.
