Born in Olmsted, Illinois to James and Bessie Wright Odle. Lou was the youngest of 10 children and grew up a Methodist Church member.

In 1951 she married William Denton Sr. of Rock Springs, St. Louis, Missouri. Two years later the family moved to Wyoming. He died in 1970.

In 1972 she married Don Nichols of Rock Springs. In 1979 they got divorced.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son Johnny Denton of Rock Springs, a grandson Joseph Seppie of Rock Springs, five sisters and four brothers. Survivors include a son, William Denton Jr., and his wife, Joann, of Grand Junction, Colorado. Two daughters, Cindy Christmas from Ogden, Utah. Tonja Barnum and her husband Bob from Midland, Texas. Eight grandchildren, Brandi Seppie Coudrain of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Cristi Seppie Gang from Anchorage, Alaska. Krystal Thompson of Grand Junction, Colorado. Lewis story of Queens, New York. Laura Denton from Denver, Colorado. Kearu Williamson from Midland, Texas. Casey Barnum from Rock Springs, Wyoming. Billy Denton Vincent from Gillette, Wyoming. Twenty-four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews.

She was an accountant for the family business Rocky Mountain Casing and later a waitress at the New Grand and Glow Room Cafe, ran the Candy and Cookie Connection at the White Mountain Mall, and was employed by Herbergers, but the work that mattered most to her was the years that she volunteered at the Young at Heart Senior Center in Rock Springs.

In 2012, she moved to Ogden, Utah to hang out with her daughter. She then moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 2018 to spend time with her son, wife, and family.

A family service will take place at a later date.
