Douglas Maxwell Obituary (1946-2021) – Vernal, UT

Doug died of a heart attack at his home in Vernal, Utah on December 10, 2021.
Doug was an accomplished musician, he loved the bass guitar, the best of country music, and John Prine was his favorite. He was in the high school marching band. After high school, Doug joined the Coast Guard. He played the trumpet. During his service, he was also the tug leader in the marching band of the Coast Guard. Doug was proud of his military service, he was a very patriotic man, he loved his country as much as his father-in-law William O. Nielson, that’s why they got along so well.
Doug reached a dark point in his life and became addicted. After he was clean and sober, he became a counselor to help other addicts he loved. There he met the love of his life, Leslie Anne Nielson, after her recovery they began dating and fell in love with them, and they married on June 15, 1997.
They left California and moved to Vernal, Utah to be closer to Leslie’s father.
While he lived in Vernal, Doug drove trucks for Mountain West and he commuted river runners for River Runner Transport. Doug always said he loved every place he worked. Doug was a simple man, he enjoyed the simple things in life like music, camping, wintering in California, being with his family, friends and his beloved dogs Scooter & Rowdy.
There are no services at this time. Doug was later buried in Camp Williams Cemetery in Bluffdale, Utah.
