Downtown Green River is thriving business despite pandemic

GREEN RIVER – 2020 was an exciting year for the Green River URA / Main Street Agency!

Despite the pandemic, some new stores have opened in the city center that are thriving and even expanding. The community has really come together to support our local businesses and we are extremely grateful.

A lot of adjustments had to be made to our events, and some even had to be canceled, but we were able to adjust others. We were able to continue to give the community the opportunity to participate and the vendors to sell their goods.

Green River The Farmers Market continued for the most part as usual despite the COVID-19 pandemic. There has been an increase in vendors and some reported having above average sales. The Salsa Guy is a well-known vendor at events like the Farmer’s Market, hosted by the Green River URA / Main Street Agency.

The farmer’s market continued for the most part as usual. We saw an increase in the number of providers and some said they had above-average sales. We love to host the market and see our residents enjoy shopping, socializing and generally having a good time.

In September we held our first Downtown Street Fair. It was a great day! The weather was beautiful and there were lots of vendors, food trucks and live music that lasted into the evening.

GR URA Halloween Parade 2020

A small police officer took part in the Halloween parade. The Green River URA / Main Street was Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was not possible to host its annual Trunk or Treat in 2020. So instead, staff and volunteers held a parade. they I’ve had so much positive feedback that there will be another Halloween Parade in 2021.

We couldn’t do Trunk or Treat so we had a parade instead! Everyone had a great time decorating their wagons and the residents loved it. We had so much positive feedback that we decided to do it again this year.

A creepy sheriff’s office vehicle that appears to be inhabited by spiders was honored at the Halloween parade.

Green River Main Street partnered with the Wyoming City and Department of Transportation for a Flaming Gorge Way corridor study. This led to a redevelopment plan for our main street. Although this project will probably not be carried out for a while, we are very excited about a plan!

We have given two facade grants to companies in the city center. The Rote Feder refreshes its entire facade with new paint, stains on the wood paneling and a new sign. The Buck’n Bar recently opened and is updating its facade with window art and a new sign. We are pleased to be able to support our companies in the city center with this program.

Green River Main Street, in partnership with the Green River Development Fund and Radio Network to offer a promotional grant to businesses in downtown areas. With this grant, 20 downtown businesses received $ 500 radio advertising.

We have also started our Downtown Dollars program and are very pleased that we have sold approximately 780 certificates. All of those dollars are being spent in our downtown stores, and the program is having a huge impact. We thank all of our neighbors who have kept their money here and continue to support our local small business community.

In the coming year, Green River Main Street is working with the Green River Arts Council to provide two murals downtown in 2021. We will also begin to get back to normal with our events and continued programming. Look for the May Day Poker Crawl, the Farmers Market from July through mid-September, and the Downtown Street Fair in September. We will also have another Trunk or Treat Parade in October. The Daily Knead Bakery in Green River is a brick and mortar shop, but it also brings artisanal bread and other goodies to the farmers market.
