WEBER COUNTY, Utah — A driver of a dump truck was transported by LifeFlight with critical injuries after the vehicle he was driving left Trapper’s Loop highway and went down into a ravine, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Sgt. Michael Irvine, with the UHP, says the vehicle was traveling northbound on the Trapper’s Loop when the incident occurred just after 2 pm Irvine says the dump truck crossed SR-39 and down a steep drop into a ravine. The driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
Irvine says from where the vehicle left the highway to where it came to a stop in the ravine, which was roughly a 150-foot drop.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. And all lanes of traffic are open and flowing, according to the UHP.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. However, witnesses told the UHP there was smoke coming from the brakes of the dump truck prior to the crash.
