Flood warnings, watches for areas in south east central Utah

The National Weather Service warns Utahner of potential flash floods in several areas of the state, primarily in southern Utah.

An official flash flood warning was issued around 3:00 p.m. for south-central Wayne County, particularly Capitol Reef National Park, Fruita, and Caineville. It lasts until 6 p.m.

Another was issued for west-central Kane County, which lasted until 5:15 p.m. and specifically included the Bicknell and Torrey areas.

Northeastern Grand County and south-central Uintah County also received a flash flood warning until 5:45 p.m.

“Turn around, don’t drown if you encounter flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles,” advised the NWS. “Stay alert to floods even in places where there is no rain.

The NWS has also released a Flash Flood Watch that lasts all evening for:

  • Lower Washington County
  • Zion National Park
  • Southern mountains
  • River valleys of the Upper Sevier
  • Bryce Canyon Country
  • South central Utah
  • Capitol Reef National Park and environs

“Flash flooding is possible, especially in slot canyons, normally dry car washes, and near burn scars.
