Gary Jacobsen Carter, loving husband, father, brother and friend passed away on December 4th in Spring City, Utah.
Gary was born on July 2, 1950 in Provo, Utah and was raised by his mother Lois Kathleen Jacobsen Wing and step-father Ray Hugh Wing, and father Floyd Earl Carter and step-mother Lois LaRetta Peay Carter. Gary spent his youth in Springville hunting with his dog and fishing in Hobble Creek, and said Brookside was a wonderful place to grow up.He attended school in Springville and graduated from Springville High in 1968.After graduation he joined the Army where he served his country from 1969-1973, 1969-1970 being stationed in Vietnam.
Gary married the love of his life Paula Murray on June 19th, 1971.Together they lived in Kansas, Springville, Provo, and have resided in Spring City for the past 35 years.He worked for the Denver and Rio Grande and Union Pacific Railroads for 25 years.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing at Flaming Gorge, hunting, and just being in the mountains spending time with family. He was a member of Spring City Sportsmans and TNT Muzzleloader Clubs for many years, and he was a force to be reckoned with when shooting his black powder rifle and shotgun. Gary had friends everywhere he went and was well respected and loved by all who knew him.
Gary cherished the time spent with his siblings, their spouses and families: Judy (Vernon) Lowe, Becky Carter, Mickey (Ilene) Carter, Ricky (Julie) Roberts, Bonnie (Butch) Curtis, Ralph (Pam) Wing, Lary (Shelley). ) Wing, Steven (DeeAnn) Carter, Rodney Carter, and Tauna (Kelly) Butler.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Paula, children Amy (Cody) Openshaw and Michael (Kristin) Carter, 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.He was predeceased by his parents, son Gary, his brothers Rodney, Ricky, Butch, Vernon, and sisters Judy, Becky and Ilene.
We know there is a great reunion happening on the other side. We love you, miss you, and can’t wait to see you again.
