Glen Aldous Weight passed away on August 21, 2021 with his family at Brigham City Hospital. Aldous was born on March 3, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents were Ethel Mendenhall and Henry Milnes Weight. He started his life as a small miracle, was brought home in a small shoebox and kept warm by the oven door until he grew up.
Aldous grew up in Springville and was proud to be a Springville Red Devil. After graduating from high school, he played football for BYU and completed his teaching degree in biology and history.
He served his country in the Army National Guard.
Aldous met the love of his life, Patricia Johnson, in a religion class. He wished her a happy birthday and then accidentally stepped on her toes, which started their relationship on the right foot. They later married on September 12, 1952 in Logan Temple. Aldous and Pat raised five excellent boys and a wonderful daughter who were their pride and joy.
He was a faithful member of Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ where he served in various callings, including the council and the bishopric. Aldous often started Sunday lunch by sharing his testimony with his family before serving delicious hand-cut fries as part of the meal.
Aldous made his first home in a mud house in Vernal, Utah, and began his teaching career. In 1958, Aldous moved with his family to Perry, Utah, and taught at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City. Aldous spent many lunch breaks playing table tennis and became a real champion. When the Indian School closed, Aldous continued teaching at Bridgerland Technology College in Logan, Utah. He later worked as a professional test interpreter for the army until his retirement. After his retirement, Aldous had one of his favorite jobs, driving a school bus. He also volunteered at Brigham City Hospital for many years.
Aldous loved the outdoors. He was often found walking, collecting wood, camping, hunting and finding stones to expand his collection. He loved spending time with his family at the Springville cabin. He also enjoyed western movies, shopping, and stocking his peanut vending machines around town. He loved celebrating the holidays and enjoyed decorating his house and garden for Halloween and Christmas, creating tons of special memories for children while being Santa’s helper for Christmas. He often expressed his love through gifts and often spoiled his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Aldous was known for always having a treat ready for anyone who visited, and had bowls of jelly belly’s, pistachios, or chocolate-covered almonds ready. Most of all, Aldous loved his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Aldous has always been warm and welcoming to everyone and is very much missed. At parting he always said: “I love you to most.” Papa, Grandpa and Papa Weight: “We love you the most!”
Aldous leaves behind his children: Terry (Jane) Weight; Steven (Debbie) weight; Brian (Cheryl) weight; Sandra (Kevin) Nelson, Gregg (Karen) weight, and Tyler (Brooklynn) weight; 22 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
In death his lover Patricia preceded; little daughter Darcie, his parents and siblings: Gordon, LaMar, Naomi (Oni) and Ross.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Perry 7th Ward Building, 2415 South Park Drive, Perry, Utah. Before the service, there will be a tour of the church from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.
The funeral will take place in Springville Cemetery.
