Great Salt Lake Collaborative offers internships for 2023 Legislative Session

SALT LAKE CITY — Two interns will have the opportunity to work with multiple Utah news outlets in covering the 2023 Utah Legislative Session.

The Great Salt Lake Collaborative is giving applicants a chance to help cover legislation related to water conservation, notably the Great Salt Lake and its watershed.

“Interns will work directly with an editor who will assign duties such as interviewing legislators on camera and gathering audio and b-roll at the state capitol, as well as bill and policy research, attending and taking notes on committee meetings and floor time, tracking bills, and script writing,” according to GSL.

The interns will work in multiple print, television, and radio news outlets in Utah.

The collaborative will pay interns $13/hour based on experience and will be working from Jan 17 to March 23.

Applicants will need to prepare three items:

  • A cover letter explaining why they are qualified and motivated,
  • sample of work, such as a written article, audio, or video story,
  • and letter of recommendation from a professor or employer.

Applicants have until Dec. 23 to send their application to Heather May by email.
