Harpeth and Sycamore faced each other in a regional appearance last week and the Indians won 3-1. Harpeth and Sycamore also faced each other in the first round of the tournament and Harpeth took that game too and won with a score of 6-3. After the win, Harpeth faced the White House and defeated the Blue Devils 11-8 to reach the semifinals for the second matchup against Sycamore in the tournament. Harpeth would lose to Greenbrier in the district final but has qualified for the regional tournament and will face MLK on Monday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. at Shelby Park

After losing to Harpeth in the first round, Sycamore had to take over the losing class. The War Eagles faced the White House in the next round and were able to stay alive with a 6-2 win over Harpeth. Sycamore’s season is over with the semi-final defeat by Harpeth.

Cheatham County Central lost the first game of the tournament 11-1 to Greenbrier but stayed alive with a 3-1 win over Westmoreland. The Cubs then had to face the White House Heritage, where their season ended 10-0.

In that semifinal game, Harpeth hit first with a run in the first inning. Dawson Capps scored after Max Sparkman’s choice of a groundout outfield player.

Sycamore came back to finish the game in the second inning after Kenny scored Harris. Austin Morris’ prolific ground ball helped Harris get home.

Both offenses settled down for a couple of innings before Harpeth regained the lead after Peyton Smith left left field and Blake Provo was able to come home. With a 2-1 result, Harpeth and Sycamore went to the fifth inning.

Harpeth would score his final run at the end of fifth as Capps scored again thanks to another Sparkman baseball that resulted in a mistake. That would be the bottom line of the game.

Ellis Hurt tossed the entire game for Harpeth, hitting three and allowing a run for seven innings.

Cheatham County Central and Sycamore are both now ready for the year.

“I have to look forward to next season,” said Michael Pauley, Cheatham County Central coach. “We have a good young group of kids and middle school students so I’m excited to see what they can do. Last season was tough for all of us and made this year a lot more difficult. “
