Hundreds of thousands of federal coronavirus funds have been used to build a tubing hill in Uintah County, Utah

UINTAH COUNTY, Utah – Uintah County opened its brand new Buckskin Hills Snow Hill this month, which includes snowmakers, snow cannons, a tow rope, and more than a dozen runs for tubing, skiing, and snowboarding, reports The Salt Lake Tribune.

The price of the Vernal attraction could be half a million dollars or more, and it was all made in federal dollars destined for responding to the pandemic. That has some struggling business owners and county residents raising eyebrows.

“A lot of people are just angry that the tax dollars are being spent on entertainment activities that can only be used for three months a year,” said Amy Farnsworth, a teacher who also runs a tutoring business. “In my opinion, the funds should go back to the state so that other companies in need can use them.”

To date, the county has spent approximately $ 322,000 on the hill – but spending could arise as the county has $ 500,000 left for CARES dollars and made purchases for Buckskin Hills just last week.
