Ignition ends in combustion near Mt. Provo

Prescribed fire near Mount Provo

Tuolumne, CA – According to officials, don’t expect to see another large puff of smoke from a mandatory burn in the Stanislaus National Forest today.

We reported yesterday that the 58 acre slash and burn near Mt. Provo in the Tuolumne area was carried out to improve forest ecology and better protect the Ponderosa Hills from a major wildfire.

First, the forest service reported that the cremation could take two days.

Forest Service spokeswoman Carol Ewell tells Clarke Broadcasting that all ignitions have completed successfully, but some smoke will still be seen in the Mt. Provo area as large logs and dead trees continue to smolder and burn. It won’t create smoke like yesterday’s cloud, however, she says.

Foresters use the autumn and winter months to complete prescribed burning projects. More strategic burns are expected to take place in different parts of the region in the coming weeks and months.
