IN FOCUS Discussion: Underserved businesses

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – Immigrants, refugees, and BIPOC regularly start their own businesses, which is an incredible contributor to Utah’s economy. However, they face additional barriers when it comes to starting and growing their business. It can be even more difficult if the business owner speaks English as a second language.

Small business owners ask to shop locally, this could save their business

Mahonry de Aquino, owner and founder of Chopper Landscaping LLC, met with Rosie Nguyen of ABC4 at 7 p.m. on CW30 News for an IN FOCUS discussion on the challenges he was facing in starting and growing this business, such as the pandemic How the Suazo Business Center helped him get loans and acquired the accounting skills he needed as a business owner had an impact on his business.

Record high scholarship for small business owners in Utah

Silvia Castro, Executive Director, and Antonella Packard, Education Manager at Suazo Business Center, took part in the discussion to discuss the obstacles entrepreneurs face with immigrants or refugees, the difficulties in completing loan applications or keeping their accounts and the resources your organization offers to assist these people through the process.
