Inert military-grade training device safely removed from SLC storage unit

SALT LAKE CITY — An inert military-grade training device was safely removed by police Friday after it was discovered in a woman’s storage unit in Salt Lake City.

At 10:57 am, the woman contacted authorities to let them know about a suspicious device in her storage unit, which she had recently purchased near 700 N. Warm Springs Road.

“Officers responded, secured the scene and contained a portion of the storage facility out of an abundance of caution,” stated a Friday afternoon press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

SLCPD’s Hazardous Devices Unit was then called out to the scene.

Detectives with the HDU team were able to safely remove the device, according to police, which is now in their possession for further investigation.

“As a reminder, if you see anything that looks suspicious, do not touch or pick up the item. Call 9-1-1 and follow instructions from the dispatcher,” the release stated.
