Jan 13 data: Jan 13 data: 27 more COVID-19 deaths in Utah, 2,899 new cases

Utah counted 27 more deaths among residents from COVID-19, some following cause of death investigations. Along with the deaths, the state recorded 2,899 new cases as well as 2,289 backfilled cases from June to date.

There are currently 566 people hospitalized for the coronavirus in Utah. Those killed included residents from across the state, including one fatality between the ages of 25 and 44. The lossy counties include:

  • carbon
  • Davis
  • iron
  • Juab
  • salt lake
  • Tooele
  • Uintah
  • Utah
  • Washington
  • Weber

The number of Americans killed in World War II is approximately 407,000, a figure that COVID-19 deaths in the United States are rapidly reaching. At the time of going to press, it was 389,621. (The numbers are from worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/, which tabulates numbers from health districts around the world.)

Tuesday marked the highest death toll in the US to date, with 4,281 deaths since the total was reported on Monday. Wednesday grand totals are not yet reported for all states. The nation also recorded 223,628 new cases on Tuesday. California – the most populous state in the country – ranks 26th in case rates but still had 42,835 new cases. The Golden State also lost 604 lives a day ago because its hospitals only have enough nurses and space.

However, the state’s severe restrictions appear to be easing hospital conditions and there seems to be a ray of hope for the state.

Arizona, with a much smaller population, lost 335 lives on Tuesday. The U.S. is in the middle of the deadliest part of the pandemic as vaccines hit millions but a few months before the hoped-for herd immunity is achieved.

Utah’s neighbor New Mexico has recorded its first case of the more contagious variant strain of COVID-19. A man in his sixties who recently traveled to the UK in December tested positive for variant B.1.1.7 of the coronavirus, according to the New Mexico Department of Health.

meanwhile Japan expanded the state of emergency of the coronavirus to seven other prefectures on Wednesday, affecting more than half of the population. Prime Minister Yoshide Suga also said Japan would suspend quick business entry permits and completely ban foreign visitors during the state of emergency.

According to a survey by communications company Edelman, declining trust in governments and all types of media threatens to limit the adoption of coronavirus vaccines worldwide, especially in the United States.

The UTAH Department of Health reported the following Wednesday

Important data note: Today’s report includes 2,289 backfilled cases that were identified as early as June 2020 but were not included in the case count due to incomplete or unverified address information for the person who tested positive. So far, UDOH has counted cases with a positive lab result and a verifiable address in Utah.

Starting today, cases with incomplete or unverified address information will be counted as Utah cases unless or until the case can be confirmed as non-Utah.

Although full address information is not available, public health conducted case studies for all 2,289 cases that could be reached.
