Jason Ross Walker Obituary (1970 – 2021) – Salt Lake City, UT

When Jason was diagnosed with lung cancer in October 2020, he overcame the challenge the way he treated most things in life – with humor and a positive attitude. He was constantly joking about his symptoms, side effects, and hair loss – always aiming to help others feel better about his situation. Cancer is a roller coaster ride of ups and downs, good and bad news, and he’s left it all – always looking for and focusing on the good.
A natural leader, Jason used his leadership skills on the basketball court (as a 27-year-old referee of high school and college basketball and soccer), in business (as a sales manager and director at Cellular One, Sprint, and Cox Communications), and as a Bishop of Latter-day Saints Church of Jesus Christ (he liked to joke that he is probably the only bishop to have served in three different wards in two years – two in Arizona and one in Oklahoma). At the time of his death, he was a bishop of the Edmond Oklahoma 5th Ward.
Jason’s career path has given his family the opportunity to live in many locations including SLC and Cedar City UT, Twin Falls ID, Sparks NV, Medford OR, Phoenix AZ, and Edmond OK. In each city, they enjoyed making lifelong friends and exploring what the area had to offer.
Jason loved watching college sports, traveling with his family, gardening, and serving others. He also enjoyed a good nap and was able to fall asleep and sleep through almost anything. Recently he was enjoying “day appointments” with his wife, who accompanied him to appointments with all of his “doctors”.
He was a great and attentive father who gave great advice. He taught us to find humor in any situation, to love unconditionally, and never to pay full price for anything. (Even if it’s on sale, be sure to stock up!)
Jason’s legacy lies in the many lives he has touched forever. He was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and tried to be like him by showing love to all with whom he came in contact. He had a unique ability to be a friend to everyone and everyone he met.
Jason was born on May 16, 1970 in Ogden, Utah. He grew up in Taylorsville, Utah, where he excelled in soccer, hockey, and student administration. He spent two years in Alabama and Mississippi as a missionary for the LDS Church and then returned home to continue his education at the SLCC and later at Grand Canyon University. He was sealed to his wife Jill on June 19, 1992 in St. George LDS Temple.
Jason leaves behind his wife Jill (Tucker) and children Madison (Brendon) Williams, Erin and Dallin, as well as his mother Patricia Walker and sister Allison (Tim) Rice. In death, his father James Ross Walker and nephew Jordan Rice preceded it.
A celebration of Jason’s life will be held in Taylorsville UT on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The funeral takes place in Hurricane City Cemetery (because Jason could never leave out much).
