Kaufusi Legacy At BYU Football Continues With Commitment Of Alta’s Maika Kaufusi

PROVO, Utah – Is there a family name in the state of Utah that is more closely related to the soccer game than Kaufusi? You will have a hard time finding one that has a greater impact on the rust, and BYU has benefited greatly from the talent within the Kaufusi family.

The newest chapter in the Kaufusi pipeline to BYU is Alta High Safety Maika Kaufusi.

As a member of the 2022 recruitment class, Kaufusi has been a longtime BYU recruit for several years. Kalani Sitake has jokingly said in the past when talking about the Kaufusi family that he plans to offer a scholarship offer to BYU to every member of the Kaufusi family. He may be joking, but you cannot blame him with this line of thought. Take a look at how successful the Kaufusi family has been at BYU over the years.

Younger brother of the BYU linebacker

Maika, the younger brother of BYU linebackers Isaiah and Jackson Kaufusi, got involved in Sitake’s program.

Maika announced his engagement on Monday evening on Twitter and wrote: “110% Committed”. He tagged BYU Football’s official Twitter account along with head coach Kalani Sitake.

Like the older brothers, Maika Kaufusi could play various positions when he arrives at BYU. Whether it’s security, cornerback, wide receiver, or linebacker like his older brothers, Maika Kaufusi is seen as an all-round 6-foot-3,180-pound athlete. He suits the type of recruit Kalani Sitake likes in prospects who have the framework that could evolve into various positions.

Older brother Jackson was a well-known “athlete” recruit from Brighton High School and has shown this versatility during his BYU career as he competed in both linebacker and running over the years.

247Sports rates Kaufusi as a three-star prospect and the 34th player in Utah for the 2022 recruitment class. He has received interest from California, Colorado, Utah State and Yale, but does not report any additional offers other than BYU.

Kaufusi flashed in the preparatory scene of his second season, in which he recorded 37 duels, on a large scale. In 2020, Kaufusi’s junior season was limited to seven games due to a shoulder injury.

Maika Kaufusi is BYU’s 2nd commit in the class of 2022

With Kaufusi, BYU now has two commitments in the 2022 class. The other commitment is American fork linebacker Noah Moeaki. Moeaki has been involved with the Cougars since spring 2019.
