LeAnn Larkin-Hatch was named America’s Credit Credit Union’s first USU student athlete of the week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah women’s distance runner LeAnn Larkin-Hatch has been named USU Student of the Week for America First Credit Union for the period ending Sunday, May 9th. A nationwide media committee will vote on the award.

In sponsoring Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union will donate funds directly to support Student-Athlete Scholarships.

Larkin-Hatch was one of nine different aggies to take home an event title at the Weber State-hosted Twilight Meet in Ogden last week. Shelley, Idaho, who was born in Shelley, led a 1-2-3-4-5 finish for the state of Utah in the 1,500 meters when she finished first with a time of 4: 35.85.

The Aggies are back in action this week at the Mountain West Outdoor Athletics Championships, held Thursday through Saturday, May 13-15, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California.

The nominees from other sports for the USU student athlete of the week included:
SOFT BALL –
The senior outfielder Stephanie Reed (Santa Fe, Texas) helped the US state of Utah to a 1-1 record last week when the Aggies hit a home double header against the US state Dixie (L, 5: 1; W 3 : 2) split up. In the first game, Reed was 3-0 down, but recorded a putout and an assist. In defeating the Trailblazers, Reed went 3-3, including two home runs. She scored three runs and had two RBIs. She also added a stolen base and two putouts.

MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Senior Garen Earley (Murray, Utah) was one of nine different Aggies to claim an event title at the Weber State-hosted Twilight Meet in Ogden last week. Earley was first on the 100 meters with a personal best of 10.63 seconds (altitude conversion to 10.66). This is the second fastest time in the mountain west this season.
