Buckeye local school district superintendent Kim Leonard resigned during Tuesday’s education committee meeting.

CEO April Ogden said the resignation is effective immediately. A statement released by the board states: “She (Leonard) will assist the board in transitioning to an interim superintendent. The board thanks Kim for her service to the district and wishes her all the best for the future. “

Scott Celestin, Assistant Superintendent, will serve as Interim Superintendent until the Board appoints a replacement.

“He has been with us for many years. He’s also been an interim superintendent for us in the past and has done pretty well, ”said Ogden.

Ogden said they will start receiving applications soon but did not provide a date that the board will hire someone to fill the position.

Leonard, who was hired as district captain in May 2017, could not be reached for comment.
