GREEN RIVER – The Wyoming Libertarian Party of Wyoming and Compassionate Options is traveling to seven Wyoming cities this weekend to collect signatures to receive two marijuana initiatives for voting for the 2022 or 2024 general election.

The voting initiatives aim to legalize medical cannabis for personal use and decriminalize cannabis for personal use in Wyoming.

The Sweetwater County Libertarian Party will be held in Green River on Friday and Saturday, September 10th and 11th, collecting signatures. Interested Sweetwater County voters can go to Flaming Gorge Harley-Davidson, 440 Uinta Drive on Fridays and Saturdays between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. to add their signature or learn more about the initiatives.

Theresa Burt, a member of the Sweetwater Libertarian Party and wife of Rep. Marshall Burt, L-Green River, said the goal is to put these initiatives in the hands of the electorate.

“That way, the agents can’t dictate what we do,” she said.

In June, Rep. Burt said he and the Libertarian Party are pushing for these initiatives to be put on the ballot because of an individual’s right to access to medical treatment and because “over-criminalization” violates individual freedom.

In addition to the Green River event, there are also events across the state in Evanston, Rawlins, Riverton, Cody, Cheyenne, and Casper.
