Lorin Don Briggs, our beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, December 4th, 2021 at the age of 92 at his home. Don was born on March 23, 1929 in Mount Pleasant, Utah, the second of five sons of Clyde Leroy Briggs and Esther Thompson Briggs.

During Don’s teenage years, he discovered that music was one of his talents and passions. He loved to play the piano and was tutored by LaMar Peterson, an accomplished pianist and teacher who ran a piano studio above the Capitol Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah. He spent many hours in the studio practicing and sharing his talent as a pianist and accompanist throughout his life.

Don was extremely intelligent and a great advocate of education. He attended West High School and then continued his higher education at the University of Utah and Weber State University, where he earned several undergraduate and graduate degrees: Bachelor and Master of Chemical Engineering, Bachelor of Mathematics, Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and an assignment to the West Point Academy.

Father proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He began his service as a private and rose to the ranks of private, lieutenant, 2nd lieutenant and finished his service with the rank of captain. During his service he met LaRayne Pearson know. They courted and were married on March 18, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Don was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has had opportunities to serve in several bishoprics and on the stake high council. He shared his musical talent for several years as a temple organist and for decades as a community organist. Papa will always be known as a really gifted pianist. Everyone who has heard him play has recognized this gift and is enthusiastic about his music.

He leaves behind his three children: Melanie Pratt (Mark), Randall Briggs (Karla) and Camille Briggs; seven grandchildren: Kristine (Alex), Matt (Sarah), Rachel (Jake), Amy, Scott, Stephanie, and Jenny (Jacob); and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Frank. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaRayne, his parents, and his brothers Rulon, Merrill, and Richard.

The funeral will take place on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Brownstone Chapel in Murray, 6410 South 725 East. Friends and family are invited to join a tour before the service at 10:00 a.m. from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

The funeral will take place in Murray City Cemetery in Murray, Utah (5490 S Vine St).
