SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Oct. 26, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) – A man was arrested after a SWAT team served an arrest warrant in the Capitol Hill area of Salt Lake City early Tuesday morning.

According to a statement from the Salt Lake County 3rd District Court, Lorenzo James Palmer, 21, is charged with:

  • Distributing / offering / ordering a controlled substance, a second degree crime
  • Purchase / surrender / possession / use of a firearm by a disabled person, a third degree crime

A search warrant was obtained for the residence in the area 270 W. 700 North as part of the ongoing criminal investigation, according to the announcement.

“Salt Lake City SWAT served the warrant and took Lorenzo Palmer into custody,” the statement said. “During the service, law enforcement watched Lorenzo snatch a shotgun from his room, but held on to law enforcement when confronted.”

A search of the apartment found 61 THC cartridges and “user quantities” of marijuana and cocaine, as well as the shotgun, the statement said.

After reading his Miranda rights, Palmer allegedly admitted to being a drug user who used marijuana and cocaine.

“Lorenzo was aware that as a drug user he could not own a firearm,” the statement said. “Lorenzo denied selling illegal narcotics. Through training and experience, your partner knows that it is common for people who own a large number of THC cartridges to sell them not just for personal use. “

Palmer was taken to Salt Lake County Jail, where he was later conditionally released.
