Margarita T Macias | News, Sports, Jobs

February 2, 1951 – December 15, 2022

Margarita T. Macias, 71, passed away surrounded by her children and close friend on Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Ogden, UT after a courageous fight against cancer. She was born in Guadalajara, Mexico to Pablo and Concepcion Topete.

She married Horacio G. Macias in San Diego, CA and in 1973 moved to Ogden, UT where they raised six children.

Margarita, affectionately known as Maggie, Mago, and Mama Macias, was a mother figure to all those who encountered her. She always made sure everyone felt welcomed, loved and was well-fed. Her cooking was well-known and was an expression of her loving and serving nature. Much like her husband, she never complained; regardless of if it was juggling motherhood, dealing with life’s surprises, or her own three battles with cancer. She taught her children that life’s hardships are opportunities to learn and to turn toward God. She was a devoutly religious woman, and an active member and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for more than 40 years. She enjoyed being outside, doing yardwork, dancing, and going for a scenic drive. She always had words of encouragement to share, reminded people to have faith in the Lord, and was able to comfort with her presence alone. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her beautiful smile and warmth will be greatly missed.

Margarita is survived by her six children, Horace (Kathy) Macias, Plain City, UT; David Macias, Ogden, UT; Daniel Macias, Bend, OR; Veronica (Roger) Hernandez, Lake Forest, IL; Rebecca Macias, Riverdale, UT; Mary (Trevor) Gowans, Taylorsville, UT; six grandchildren, and their living siblings, Alfonso, Maria Elena, Jose de Jesus, Carmen, Luz Maria, and Ruben. She is preceded in death by her sister, Socorro and brother, Pedro.

The family would like to thank all those who prayed for and helped Margarita during her cancer journey. A special thanks to close friends Martina, Nila, and Milda who were a great support. Que Dios las cuide y bendiga.
