Missing woman found alive in Diamond Fork Canyon since November

SPANISH FORK, Utah – A woman who has been missing Diamond Fork Canyon since November 2020 has been found alive. Utah County officials said the 47-year-old woman was found in a tent.

Crews encountered the woman on Saturday. They said she was in poor physical condition and had only a small amount of food and water.

“This woman … had lost a significant amount of weight and was weak, but she was apparently resourceful too,” a press release from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said. “We now believe she made a conscious choice to stay in the area in the months since November 2020.”

Search and rescue teams said she told them she lived on grass and moss and drank from a nearby river.

He was taken to the hospital for a mental examination.

The crews first began looking for the unidentified woman when her car was found in a campsite parking lot on November 25, 2020.

“They also found camping equipment and information that identified the person camping there,” the statement said.

A search was carried out from the ground and from the air, but the woman could not be found.

Search teams believed the car and camping equipment might have been left behind, so the car was confiscated and the equipment was moved to safety, according to the notice.

“In the next few months, unsuccessful efforts were made to identify the family and make contact,” the statement said. “Detectives have contacted this woman’s former employees, but have not received any information to suggest where this woman might be.”

On Sunday, a sergeant from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office with an air search team returned to Diamond Fork looking for evidence that she might still be in the area.

“During one of the first rounds, the drone crashed and the sergeant and the drone pilot went to look for the drone,” the message says. “When they went into the mountains, they found a tent that they believed was deserted. About then the zipper of the tent opened and there was the woman the SAR officials were looking for in December 2020. “
