CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — Ever made an appointment at the doctor’s office only to hurry up and wait? You’re not alone. Seeking to decrease wait times and stress levels, Dr. Gary MacDonald and his wife, pharmacist Elyse MacDonald, opened Mojave Health offering a whole different experience by prioritizing patients’ time.

With a mission to provide the best care possible while also eliminating wait times for appointments, Mojave Health ensures that patients are seen promptly at their scheduled time appointment times. Same-day primary care appointments are available as well.

“We offer the opportunity to discuss health care with a board-certified and licensed physician who’s familiar with their needs,” MacDonald said. “We reduce the wait to provide more value to our patients.”

Patients also have the choice between a 30-minute or 60-minute visit, which allows patients the opportunity for an extended appointment time with a doctor to discuss their needs and concerns without feeling rushed.

It’s this attention to varying individual needs that Mojave Health prides itself on. Patients are considered more than just another number; they’re part of the clinic’s family.

Formed in 2021 to address the shortage of primary care physicians and clinicians in southwestern Utah, Mojave Health was born out of a desire to repair the disparities in the health care system while offering primary health care focused solely on patients.

“We saw a lot of patients hung out to dry during the pandemic because they couldn’t get into the doctor or even get a call back,” MacDonald said. “We believed they deserved much more than what they were getting.”

With this mission in mind, Mojave Health was created to improve access to primary care and ensure that patients get in to see a doctor right away, as opposed to waiting a week or more at other health care facilities. Along with in-person appointments, Mojave Health also offers telemedicine appointments to patients located in Utah, Florida and Hawaii.

Designed to meet the individual needs of patients, the appointment process at Mojave Health provides various check-in options, including online check-in, front desk check-in or self-check-in via iPad at the office. And after the visit is complete, patients may choose to have paperwork emailed directly to them or delivered through a secure online patient portal. This portal allows patients to access records, prescription refill requests, and use a messaging platform to communicate directly with their physician.

After graduating from medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, he completed a master’s degree in economics followed by a residency in family medicine at Rapid City Regional Hospital, which is affiliated with the University of South Dakota.
