MPs: Man accused of aggravated theft uses kayak as “getaway car”

LEXINGTON, SC (GUARD) – Authorities arrested and charged a man after allegedly paddling away with $ 5,000 worth of stolen property.

Eric Nickles, 36, was charged with aggravated theft on August 21.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said Nickles paddled his kayak to a docked boat in South Carolina. He then loaded the stolen items from the docked boat into the second kayak he was towing, officials said.

The boat owner says Nickles stole speakers, amplifiers, a subwoofer and batteries.

When searching Nickles’ house for the missing items, MPs said they found a trolling motor that was reported stolen in another case; it was painted black to hide “any identifying features”.

Nickles was arrested on Monday night.
