Multiple victims recovering after unrelated shootings in Salt Lake City, Taylorsville

SALT LAKE CITY — Multiple victims are recovering after two unrelated shootings in Salt Lake City and Taylorsville Wednesday evening.

Two men in their mid-20s are in the hospital recovering after being shot in the legs in Taylorsville. Also in the hospital is a 20-year-old who was shot in the leg in Salt Lake City.

The two shootings are unrelated.

In Taylorsville, police say shots were fired at 7 p.m. at 4545 Atherton Drive near the basketball court.

Officials said four people were in some sort of fight and shots were exchanged, although the exact cause of the fight is unknown.

Taylorsville police believe there were shooters on both sides of the fight and two of the men ran away from the scene. Officials are unsure if the two people who ran away were injured in the exchange.

The incident is likely isolated between the two parties and Taylorsville Police believe there is no danger to the public.

A drone and helicopter response was triggered to try to track down others involved in the shooting.

The two men who were taken to the hospital are in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile in an unrelated incident in Salt Lake, one 20-year-old man is recovering after also being shot in the leg.

The Police Department’s Gang Unit is investigating the incident.

At 4:35 pm a caller reported a shooting near 600 South 200 East, police report.

Officers located the 20-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the calf. In the time it took officers to arrive, a person “known to the victim” put a tourniquet on the 20-year-old’s leg, officials said.

The preliminary investigation shows a group got into a fight and shots were fired.

Individuals involved with the shooting fled the scene and officers could not locate the suspects.

Although there is no suspect information to release, police believe this was not a random incident.
