Mystery freshwater shark caught at Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming

The local fisherman Frank Abril Tanto sent us this photo yesterday afternoon. Tanto was trolling for lake trout at the Flaming Gorge Reservoir when he ended up catching more than he expected.

As he stumbled the shark, he was sure he had broken the current record for lake trout which is 53 pounds, 15 ounces.

Tanto broke another record by catching the first shark in the Flaming Gorge.

I staggered and stumbled on, and eventually it was close enough to the boat that I could tell it wasn’t lake trout. So I just sent it and kept stumbling. We networked the big guy and BOOM, there was a shark on my boat. IT. WAS. WILD.

Local fish biologists are unsure how the shark got into the reservoir and are currently investigating the strange situation. Awaiting the investigation, Wyoming Game and Fish may consider releasing more sharks into the Flaming Gorge to help control the burbot population.

In other news, Governor Mark Gordon has also signed an ordinance to “cancel” Wyoming Wind.

APRIL JERK!
