NM State Heads to Utah for PING Cougar Classic

TEEING OFF

• The NM State men’s golf team will head to Provo, Utah for one final tune-up before the WAC Men’s Golf Championship, beginning Monday.
• Friday will feature 36 holes of golf and is currently slated for a shotgun start, beginning at 9:00 AM MDT. If weather permits, tee times will be from 8:00-10:00 am on the first and tenth holes.
• The Cougar Classic field features 13 teams including Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Dixie State, Nevada, Pacific, San Diego, St. Mary’s, Utah Valley, Washington State, Wyoming, and the host school, Brigham Young.
• Boise State (No. 50), Brigham Young (No. 49), and Nevada (No. 34) all sit inside the top 50 nationally of the most recent GolfStat national rankings.
• It is forecasted to be a soggy first day of competition in Provo, providing additional challenges for the field. Currently, there is an 80% chance of rain on Friday.
• Garrison Smith is coming off of a co-championship at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic last week. In his home state of Texas, Smith shot a 213 (-3) over the three rounds of competition.
• Smith will represent the Aggies in Provo alongside Aidan Thomas, Joseph Robson, Matthew Jackman, and Alvaro Morales.

COMING UP NEXT

• The Aggies will head to Boulder City, Nevada for the WAC Men’s Golf Championships. NM State will look to add a conference championship to its collection for the second consecutive year. Last year, the Aggies edged out Grand Canyon in Boulder City by one stroke to claim a bid to the NCAA Regional Championships.
