No. 19 Provo Profits From Sales, Defeating Cedar Valley

PROVO, Utah – The No. 19 Provo Bulldogs forced multiple turnovers, converting them into points and a win over the Cedar Valley Aviators.

The Bulldogs scored a touchdown on their first drive of the game to take the 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter. Cedar Valley managed to get into the red zone but missed a field goal attempt.

Provo broke away for a very long run, and when the running back reached the five-yard line, Cedar Valley’s Tanner Evans pulled the ball and took it the other way.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Lucas Peck caught a long ball and brought it to the four-yard line. The Aviators scored after DL So’i Saaga ran in a one-yard TD to tie the game at seven with just over 11 minutes to go in the first half.

On the counterattack for Provo, Feitagai Lesa ran on touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 13-7 lead, with 9-17 remaining in the first half. Shortly on the next drive from Cedar Valley, quarterback Payton Weber suffered a serious injury and did not return to the game when he was evacuated. Easton Schank took over the quarterback.

The Aviators responded to the adversity of losing their starting quarterback with Joe Lomu touchdown and the game was tied at 13 at 4:21 by halftime. Provo responded with Jace Welsch, who linked up with Tomasi Hifo for a 57 yard TD to give the Bulldogs a 20-13 lead with 3:06 in the half.

Third and goal, Welsch found Rockwell Magleby for a 5 yard touchdown and Provo’s lead was 27-13 with 37 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Aviators opened the second half with an impressive drive. Cedar Valley marched through the middle of the field and finished the drive with a Lomu touchdown run to reduce Provo’s lead to 27-20.

After the touchdown, the Aviators reinforced the defense and forced a provo fumble.

Unfortunately for Cedar Valley and luckily for Provo, the Bulldogs returned the favor and fumbled the ensuing game through the offense of the aviators.

The Bulldogs took the second chance. Provos Welsch made a quarterback sneaker over the goal line and into the end zone. The result extended Provo’s lead to 34-20.

Provo’s defense followed the result by forcing a three-and-off. The Bulldogs got the ball and a short field, but we couldn’t take the opportunity.

Cedar Valley, however, returned the ball to Provo when Magleby tore the ball away for impressive interference. Again, the Bulldogs were unable to convert sales into points and the Aviators forced a Provo punt.

The Cedar Valley offense failed to get going and Provo got the ball back.

The Bulldogs evade a turnover, a near-interception by the Aviators, and score their second touchdown of the half. Lesa ran the ball into the end zone to give the Bulldogs a three point advantage, 41-20.

In the final 90 seconds of the game, Provo intercepted Cedar Valley to seal his win.

With the result, Provo improved to a 3-0 record that season and Cedar Valley dropped to 1-2.

The Bulldogs’ next game is against the Viewmont Vikings on Friday, September 3rd at 7pm (MDT).

The next aviator contest will be against the Payson Lions on Friday, September 3rd at 7pm (MDT).
